1997
As seems to be the tendency in DFW, the year was a two-horse race. KKDA-FM (K104) won the battle in the spring, but KHKS (Kiss FM) won the rest of the year, and brought top 40 to a level it hadn't seen in decades. Not only was Kiss sitting in the top spot, it was the first top 40 station to top a seven share since KLIF in 1975.
Two well-established stations made decent ratings inroads in 1997. For the first time ever, KDMX (Mix 102.9) finished in
every single top ten for the year, notching a 4.4 share in the summer book and giving the station its first-ever top five finish. Nearing its tenth anniversary, classic rock KZPS made two finishes in the top ten, giving it rock bragging rights in the fall.
